A Cumin Story

A couple of days ago, my friend Joanna received an invitation to a potluck dinner party. She had been racking her brain, but still did not know what dish she could bring to the potluck.

 

 

Out of the blue, her African grey parrot kept saying, “Cumin! Cumin! Cumin!” A light bulb immediately went off in Joanna’s head, she had a brilliant idea and knew what dish she was going to fix.

 

 

During Chinese New Year, Joanna’s relatives gave her a lot of cumin seeds. When she took a whiff of those seeds, she screamed and cried with happiness! She immediately fell in love with the peppery scent and warm, pungent smell of the cumin seeds.

 

Ever since that day, she has been doing a ton of research on health benefits of cumin seeds.

 

 

Joanna even started to grow cumin indoors! Since Joanna has always loved to flaunt her cooking skills in the kitchen, she asked all  her family members to come inside her kitchen to check out how she made her signature cumin vegetable stir-fry before she headed off to the party.

 

 

Here’s Joanna Style Cumin Vegetable Stir Fry Simple Recipe:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cumin (Comino) Vegetable Stir Recipe

Ingredients:

Curry powder – 1 teaspoon

Cumin seeds or comino spice – 1 tablespoon

Ground cumin – 1 teaspoon

Crushed red pepper – 1 tablespoon

Garlic – 2 cloves, minced

Chopped red bell pepper –  ¾ cup

Cauliflower florets – 2 cups

Broccoli florets – 2 cups

Fresh cilantro – 2 teaspoons, chopped (optional)

Water – 1 cup

Kirkland organic no-salt seasoning – ½ teaspoon

 

Preparation

 

Heat ½ of water in a large wok over medium-high heat. Add curry powder, cumin seeds, ground cumin, crushed red pepper, garlic; quickly cook and stir fry for about 40 seconds. Add bell pepper, cauliflower florets, broccoli florets; reduce heat to medium and mix well.

 

Cook and stir till water evaporates. Add remaining  ½ cup of water; cover and cook about 10 minutes or until vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring occasionally.

 

Add no-salt seasoning and mix everything well. Garnish with cilantro if wanted. Enjoy!

 

People at the potluck actually enjoyed Joanna’s dish A LOT and everyone cried out of joy after trying out her signature stir-fry. Joanna gave all the credits to her secret ingredient, which was cumin seeds!

A Word of Caution
